Corn Husk Dolls: Paula Kermiet Connolly

I’m Paula Kermiet Connolly and I’’ve been making corn husk dolls for over 40 years. I live in Boulder, Colorado, but I’m a member of the Ritchie Family of Viper, Kentucky, and I learned this folk art craft from several of my aunts, one of whom was May Ritchie Deschamp.
May was instrumental in developing the rough dolls the family played with as children in the early 1900’s into more elaborate ones, several of which are on display at the Smithsonian Institute. Many of my family members have mastered and developed this craft. I’m one of the few family members still making dolls in both the family tradition in creating new styles of my own, including many fantasy-themed dolls.
I dye my own husks and make all the extra details such as the baskets, hats, and mini flowers. My corn husk dolls are very detailed and much time goes into each one to create the highest quality doll possible.
Please visit my Etsy shop at http://prkc.etsy.com to view some of my dolls.
I also love to do special orders!

I think you are thinking like sukrat, but I think you should cover the other side of the topic in the post too…

Dear Paula,
I was so excited when I read your posting. I started cornhusking in 2003 and organized the Corn Husk Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CHAP) in 2004. Cornhusking has diversified in the Philippines, but I noticed that very few are keen on doll-making where I developed a passion for cornhusk dolls. I would like to communicate with you via email. With you Paula, let’s plan an international club of cornhusk doll makers/designers. And we could invite others, let’s meet! I’d like to send you photos of some of my dolls and some of those crafted by other Filipino doll makers.
Hope to hear from you, Paula. Thank you!
