Barbra La Bosco aka All About The Buttons

I honestly admit that the purpose &; use of a blog in the craft community was lost on me for a long time. Finally I made a connection: Blog + Readers=Potential Sales. I have always enjoyed writing and reading, so hey? Why not?!

I’d like to address a few blog-etiquette thoughts and how they may help. Just reading blogs may inform and enlighten you but commenting is the key and the first order of business. By doing this, it is a way to get noticed, draw people to your blog and your shop.

This allows you to state your thoughts/ideas/questions in a comfortable area. Many others, besides the poster, will read the comments and hopefully check you out. This ‘conversation’ gets you attention. All bloggers love to read comments and they serve a great purpose.

Now, you’re asking “What should I say?” Try to relate to the post you have just read. If it’s a recipe, tell the poster how delicious it sounds. If it’s a craft tutorial, comment how you’d like to try it. Ask a question if you’re unsure about an aspect. If it’s a craft spotlight, thank the poster for bringing it to your attention. If you have checked out the blogger’s shop, tell them. If the original post asks for ideas, suggestions, thoughts-tell them. This may be the only time where linking to your own shop is acceptable. I read a blog once and they asked for ideas about a purchase they wanted to make. I thought I had what they were looking for and so I suggested my shop. Did they buy? No, I didn’t have the right size but we’ve become blog buddies ever since. Positive feedback goes far for the blogger and you. Remember also, every blogger has friends who have friends and on and on. don’t just read blogs related to crafts. Read what interests YOU, be it science, environment, religion, food…whatever!

What shouldn’t you say or do? If it’s a commentary, and you strongly disagree, just leave! Don’t comment if you have negative feelings or you haven’t really read the post. That’s not an effective marketing position. Don’t link an item from your shop unless it’s an instance like I stated earlier. It is consider spam, aka: No No! The name link will take the reader back to your blog where, I assume, you have links all over to your piece of the cyber world. Reread your comment before you post for spelling, clarity, etc. You want to be clear and understood. Errors will leave a bad taste for other readers.

There is much more to be aware of regarding blogs but I’ll stop here. Need more information or ideas, ask! After all, just like a blog, comments here are very welcome!
