Glass and Wire Gems
Hi, I’m Donna. Originally from Chicago, we arrived in St. Charles, MO, via Tucson and Salt Lake City. We live in a hilly area between the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
I’ve worked with stained glass off and on for years but after spending years as a paralegal and lastly as a medical transcriptionist, I became a bit more serious about it. A friend and mentor held a class on fusing dichroic glass and I was hooked. I am totally fascinated with the process and love seeing what has happened in my kiln. After playing with the glass for a while, I realized that I needed to be able to do something else with it. I’m a self-taught wire wrapper again fascinated with the process of taking a beautiful cabochon, wire-wrapping it and creating a piece of jewelry.
Obviously, this is an expensive hobby and I want to keep doing it, so family and friends suggested that I try selling my pieces. I started selling in a boutique in a small town near me and fired up an ArtFire studio and an Etsy shop. The story continues. I have so much to learn. There are so many ideas spinning around in my head that I often don’t know where to begin. It will be interesting to see where this journey takes me.
My family and my faith help to keep me moving on along with our three cats, four cockatiels, parakeet and nine finches. Life is a blessing!

Welcome Donna!!! I love your piece and I own a couple of dichroic glass necklaces and a bracelet and do know the procedure to making those are very difficult and, as you said, expensive. The necklace and bracelet I own from one artisan was not made by her, she just assembled them, & she bought the pieces, but she told me what goes into it to make. And the other one I own was given to me by someone that took a class and it didn’t fill up all the way, but I still love it. But yours is outstanding and very unique, I can tell you have the right touch and are a natural!!! I love the gold wrap around the glass as well.
Welcome to Indiesmiles!!!
