If you enjoy maps then Bombus is a shop to be savored! This Etsy shop owner uses maps from just about anywhere and decoupages them creating amazing plates, bowls, cards and furniture (just to name a few). I was simply amazed when I found her items especially since she offered a “Wish” card using a map cut as a star! I approached Bombus’s shop owner to request this wonderful card with a particular spot in the UK, to be used within the project. She was happy to accommodate my custom request; in fact she responded very quickly and had the UK town I was looking for, Bridgnorth. Perfect!

The shop reigns from Kent London UK, I have friends that reside in Kent and soon will be visiting them along with my cousins who reside in London. I’ve been researching my family history (especially my grandfather, John Henry Parker), in Bridgnorth (this will be a great off topic article!) and my cousin’s, Hilary and Wolfgang, will be making this dream come true. I will be visiting soon and they will be escorting me to Bridgnorth to visit the historic areas that our family lived and worked.

Getting back to Bombus (sometimes I do get carried away when I talk about my plans for that trip!) You will adore her map and her UK attraction envelopes; what a fun way to send out Etsy orders or send off a letter to a favorite friend who adores maps, and who doesn’t? You can request custom orders from the owner, whether if be a bowl covered in a map of China or a bowl decoupage with a map of Mexico you can always check with Bombus to see if it’s a request she can help you with. How much fun is this!

“I trained in textiles at Central St Martins and then weave at The Royal College Art. I then worked for many years in the commercial textile & furniture industry designing upholstery fabrics, sofas, cabinet furniture & rugs but eventually became disenchanted by the use of mass production techniques. I missed the art of actually making with my hands; I have since come full circle with my business, Bombus, which features bespoke furniture and art accessories for the home, created using the age-old technique of decoupage.”

Bombus also recently opened another Etsy shop http://BombusCraft.etsy.com, where you can find cut-outs of her maps,etc in heart and star shapes as well as other paper craft supplies. So if you enjoy making paper crafts it’s a must see!
