My love for arts and crafts goes back to my days as a tyke doing art projects with my grandmother. Since the, art was always my favorite subject in grade school, concentrating on sketch art and eventually winning my middle school’s logo design contest. When I entered high school I became interested in painting and took a course in photography and screen printing, but my main interests shifted over to science.
I attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, to study physical geography. During this time, I learned a lot about topology, plant ecology, and environmental reconstruction, eventually earning my B.S. in geography. Despite most of my time being preoccupied with science, it was the experience of my “handmade wedding” that got me interested in paper arts. I created the invitations, maps, programs, and menus for my wedding. It started an obsession that I haven’t been able to stop since! I decided to open an Etsy shop in 2007, and since then have become immersed in creating, selling, blogging, and shopping handmade. My love for natural history has been combined with paper and fiber arts in my newest shop on Etsy.
I now live just outside Chicago with my husband and two baby girls. Although at present I dedicate most of my time to raising my daughters, I still find time to run my Etsy shops, plan my new line of stationery and fiber arts for 2011, blog, and write for Indie Smiles!
