Introducing our Mascot!
Hi everyone, Katie here.
Yes, I became an IndieKitty awhile back when Linda GJ wrote an article about Cat Blogs. Well, since I have my very own blog : http://glogirly.blogspot.com/ I have been elected with becoming the new Mascot for Indiesmiles, which I am not at all surprised, since I am well known for my sharp tongue and sarcastic wit. A floofy, sweet lap cat, I am not. I am so right for this job because I soooo… fit the meaning of Indie.
‘INDIE’
The Urban Dictionary defines Indie as “Cooler than Emo.” Now I don’t know who this Emo guy is, but I’m going to assume he’s very cool. The Urban Dictionary goes on to note that Indie is an informal version of Independent. Here’s where it gets even cooler: Indie has come to symbolize originality and forward-thinking.
So as an Indie Kitty, I am an independent, original, forward-thinking, cooler than emo CAT. Now how cooler than emo is THAT!!
Just call me Indie’s Mascot Kitty Katie.
You all also will have to go visit my blog which is all about me.
Here is the movie I was featured in with the article that 1st introduced me here on Indiesmiles. I am the star and it all about me… naturally! To see a visual slide show of our mascot Katie, you can find it here, in the full article.
We support a local animal charity - Safe Haven
5% of all advertising sales
will go to Safe Haven! Presently, we will direct those funds to Pandora.
Read the latest email that we’ve recently received from Safe Haven concerning Pandora:
Pandora’s illness was as mysterious as her name. Pandora belongs to a feral cat colony that was abandoned by the person who had been feeding them when she moved and left them behind. Safe Haven has since been feeding the cats and has had them neutered. Pandora was found during the last snowstorm unable to walk and dragging herself with her front paws.
Pandora’s left ear is tipped, the universal indicator of a neutered stray cat
Assuming an injury with broken bones, we immediately took her to a Veterinarian for X-Rays. It turned out she had no visible injuries, but she was developing life-threatening breathing problems, so she was referred to the Neurology Department of a specialty veterinary practice. A CAT Scan revealed that she had a massive tumor pressing on her spine impeding her ability to walk and breath normally. As any true No-Kill organization would do, Safe Haven decided to go ahead with the lifesaving and expensive special surgery.
The surgery was a success and, thankfully for Pandora, the tumor turned out to be infection-based and benign. On the 4th day after surgery Pandora stood up and on the 5th day she was walking again.
Please consider donating to Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary’s newly created Pandora’s Fund to help defray the cost of Pandora’s life-saving surgery and to help save more lives.
Donations to Pandora’s Fund will go directly towards emergency medical care for Sussex County feral/barn cats who have been neutered through Safe Haven’s Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program and for dogs in Safe Haven’s Dog Transport program. Click for the Pandora’s Fund paypal button. Or you can write a check to Safe Haven and put Pandora’s fund in the memo line; mail it to Safe Haven, P.O. Box 430, Nassau, DE, 19969.
The Wizard behind Indiesmiles
An article written about Indiesmiles and how it began
By Contributing columnist LindaGJ aka LindaGJ
I have always wondered, who is that Wizard behind Indiesmiles? I’ve gotten to know her as Sue Rosen in the past couple of years, but all I really knew was that she was an extremely nice person that made me feel like I had something special as a person and as an artist. The 1st time I met her, she was a customer. Sue mentioned she had a cat that looked very similar to my Peanut. We would talk about our love for cats and she stated that she admired my work. Then Sue opened up Indiesmiles and wrote an article about me and my work. Before I knew it, I was writing articles for her website and now I consider her a good friend. I finally asked her one day, “Could I write an article about you?” Well…you know I must have gotten a “yes” answer, or I wouldn’t be writing this article! Sue is a very complex person as she is into so many different things….
……El and Sue (both whom worked together in projects concerning the Etsy Team EFA or “Etsy for Animals”) brought their combined creative energy, together to build Indiesmiles. Owning an online website requires a great devotion and medical school took up too much time for El and she was no longer able to continue with Indiesmiles. Sue took over in October of 2009. Funny, Sue had thought that perhaps that could be the end for Indiesmiles. She even started to work for a very large competitor as a contirbuting columnist! After so much frustration with that large website coupled with a “light bulb” realization, Sue decided that this type of information sharing could work on Indiesmiles!
At that point Indiesmiles was awaken from the shelf and Sue brought on a few contributing columnists (I was one of them)! I am a columnist for Indiesmiles, and have been since she took over by herself in approx Oct. 2009. Those of you that don’t know me my Etsy shop is LindaGJ
Barbra of Allaboutthebuttons is Indiesmiles Assistant Editor and Andy of Incredible Angels is our technical liason. To top it off we have several marketing agents that take on the responsbility of promoting Indiesmiles on a daily basis on Twitter, Facebook and various forums! Our columnists and their stories can be found on our columnists page. Sue really wants the columnists, marketing staff and the readers to enjoy every part of the “SMILE” concept. After all, it’s important that everyone is happy or why become involved?
Sue loves the fact that Indiesmiles can help other shops become noticed. The way she feels about it is, if Indiesmiles helps one shop get a sale, then we’ve all have done a great job! She also enjoys sharing the world of handmade items with her readers. We all thank and appreciate you Sue for all you do for us handmade artists! Oz Image courtesy of Sweetheartsinner
